Now this is seriously rocking! That's a pretty cool overview of '70s punk. Myself, I would have thrown in something from the Dead Boys or Johnny Thunders' Heartbreakers, but it's still really solid as it is!

Now this is one seriously nifty mix you've put together! I totally get where you're coming from with Ted Nugent. I think that Ted's guitar playing rocks, even though I'm certainly no fan of his politics. In the past, I've often indulged a tendency of mine to put one of Ted's songs back-to-back with some other song whose sentiments totally undercut Ted's (for example, pairing "Weekend Warriors" with Pearl Jam's "Glorified G" - ha, ha, ha! Elsewhere I started one mix with the '74 Amboy Dukes number "Lady Luck" and followed that with Bob Dylan's "Ballad Of Hollis Brown" - DOUBLE-Ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha!) :-) :-) :-) Now as far as Guns N' Roses go, the only thing they've done which I have any kind of reservations about is "One In A Million" - and I personally think "Chinese Democracy" rocks! ;-)

Yet another impressive mix from the good Captain! Cool picks from the Cars, Queen, the Chili Peppers, the Stones, Petty, Hole, Chris Cornell, and AYWKUBTTOTD...

Very interesting mix! I've always been a fan of the Stones' "Winter." (And if you check, you'll see that I included that very song on my very own PAZUZU MIX #2 all the way back when!) In my humble opinion, it's extremely underrated next to songs like "Angie" and "Fool To Cry." And "Blackbird" is one of Paul McCartney's most subtle and beautiful Beatles songs. In addition, I truly dug Pearl Jam's cover of Mother Love Bone's "Crown Of Thorns." Eddie Vedder's singing is faithful to the original while at the same time not imitating the late Andy Wood's singing style. (For those out there who do not know, PJ guitarist Stone Gossard and bassist Jeff Ament were former members of MLB!) Elsewhere, Nick Cave's "Up Jumped The Devil" is quite wittily sinister and fun. Love And Rockets' cover of "Lucifer Sam" is a decent cover of the Syd Barrett/Pink Floyd original. The Band Of Horses number, "Is There A Ghost?," is probably one of my favorite songs on this mix. This may sound weird, but I found it not dissimilar to what a happy, upbeat Joy Division would sound like. (If such a thing is even halfway conceivable - ha, ha!) But the biggest surprise of all was the closer, Thurston Moore's "Fri / End." I was frankly surprised at how much I liked that song, given how less than enthusiastic I am about Sonic Youth (give or take a cool song like "Dirty Boots," "Sugar Kane" or "On The Strip")! Once again, kudos are in order. Keep up the good work, Captain! :-)

Now here's a really supercool mix! #3-8 is an especially inspired sequence. I also love #12-13.

I must say, Captain, the "Frankenstein" approach suits you very well! While I must confess to not being familiar with every single thing on this mix, I can tell that your sense of all-over-the-place eclecticism is rather similar to my own. And your Doors selection, "Been Down So Long," just so happens to be one of MY favorite Doors songs! :-)

WOW! Captain Hi-Top, my man, you've done it again! This is an absolutely superb New York punk rock mix! I've always been a huge fan of the New York Dolls and Patti Smith, myself, and I've got a lot of respect for Lou Reed as a songwriter.

"I've got a fever! And the only prescription is..." Oh, you know! ;-) Solid, cranking FM classic/hard rock collection from top to bottom. I can't think of a single thing not to love about this. (Granted, I can think of a few who would be less than enthused, but who cares?!) Kudos, and keep up the good work!! :-)

Oh, this is right up my alley! :-) Fantastic song picks here all around. You've got my all-time favorite Nirvana song here, as well as choice picks from AIC, APC, Suede, Jane's Addiction, the Stones and Soundgarden!

Hey, Captain! That looks like a rather definitive Marilyn Manson compilation you've got there. As for myself, the only Manson disc I actually have is the best-of, Lest We Forget, so perhaps I'm ill-qualified to pass further comment, but I would be most interested in listening to this one of these days. By the way, I understand that Manson once recorded a cover of Five To One by The Doors. You wouldn't happen to have that by any chance, would you...? Rock on!! :-)

I'm familiar with quite a few songs on this disc (Stooges, Motorhead, Mudhoney, Sabbath and Ministry), and when it cames to the hard stuff, I think you've got really good taste! (Although I am rather disappointed that you deleted the Led Zep and Nirvana tracks! :-()

I actually have "Forkboy" on the "Natural Born Killers" soundtrack! (Although I haven't had occasion to use it yet on one of my own mixes.) I gotta say, this is a way-heavy, seriously rocking and slamming mix you've put together. One for rock fans of all ages to form a pit in the living room when they put this on at a party!

This does a really good job of summing up the whole feel of the '80s hair metal era! It's a style that I personally have rather mixed feelings about, but I'd be lying if I said there weren't any bands from that era that I didn't enjoy a great deal! I've always dug Motley Crue, W.A.S.P., Cinderella, Kix, Loudness, Twisted Sister and L.A. Guns. Against my better judgment, I've actually even got a soft spot for Poison! But I never really cared that much for Warrant, Winger or Firehouse. I think it started getting a bit glossy and cheezy at the turn of the decade...

This is a great mix, Captain Hi-Top! May Layne Staley rest in peace...Like you, I'm also a big Alice In Chains fan. I've got all their CDs as well as Mad Season's "Above" and Jerry Cantrell's "Boggy Depot" and the 2-disc version of "Degradation Trip" (very underappreciated, in my humble opinion!) And I've gotta say that I can't really argue with the tracklisting at all (although I personally would have included "Them Bones" and "Angry Chair"). A very thoughtful and well-compiled tribute. Keep up the good work! (P.S. One more question: Are you into the Screaming Trees - or their singer Mark Lanegan? As you know, he appears on two Mad Season tracks...)

Maybe the songs that didn't make the cut this time around will make it into the sequel! ;-) Although I'm not familiar with everything here, I like a lot of it (Richard Hell, Alice, Iggy, Nirvana, Billy Idol, STP). And it's always nice to see that somebody else out there is also a fan of Brother Wayne Kramer's solo work! :-) P.S. No pun intended by that line about not making the "cut" this time around. (But I guess it's there, anyway! *SIGH* Oh well. Ha, ha, ha...)

Well, tornadoZ was kind enough to send me a copy of the mix in the mail (first class!), so now I finally got the opportunity to listen to how our little collaboration turned out. And I'm truly impressed with the results, and with how his and my musical tastes rather seamlessly melded together! With the exception of the Slade number, I've actually never heard anything by any of tornadoZ's other eight picks, nor do I even really know all that much about the artists. I put off looking any of them up on the internet so I could offer up some of my own observations free of influence. 1) Murray Head - "She's Such A Drag": Kind of rootsy, kind of glammy. Reminds me a bit of late-period Mott The Hoople, especially with the female backup singers. 3) 50 Foot Wave - "Bone China": Rhythmically dexterous, aggressive yet melodic, kind of the artsier end of the punk spectrum. 7) Tindersticks - "Trouble Every Day": Melancholy, soulful and jazzy, kind of loungey but not cheesy! 9) Rubicon - "American Dreams": Feels like a quirkier strain of '70s FM radio rocker, with cool quotes from "Peter Gunn," "The Star-Spangled Banner" and "Battle Hymn of the Republic"! 11) Paris - "Starcage": Also kind of '70s-sounding, propelled by a synth riff and with a spacey sci-fi lyrical theme. 13) Uba-up - "Guano": Not quite sure what to make of this one. Kind of a novelty feel to this, with a vaguely scatological motif! And very brief, as well. 15) Starflyer 59 - "The Voyager": Has an early '90s, heavy psychedelic art-rock feel to it, with fuzzy guitar. 17) Shawn Phillips - "She Was Waitin' For Her Mother at the Station in Torino and You Know I Love You Baby But it's Getting Too Heavy to Laugh": A very emotional sort of singer-songwriter epic. It kind of reminds me of that Smiths song "Last Night I Dreamt That Somebody Loved Me"; perhaps it's the chord sequence! It also makes a good bridge between the Velvets and Who songs. Anyway, I'd like to give a loud thanks to tornadoZ for introducing me to some cool stuff I'd never heard before, and I'm hoping that we can collaborate again sometime in the future! :) :) :) (And that cover image is nothing short of totally awesome!! And really quite fitting when you think about it. After all, Pazuzu IS a diabolical wind spirit - and normal tornadoes are quite diabolical enough when they're not under the Evil One's influence! So that should tell ya something... ;))
