I Never Should Have Listened (for lanhamyodel)
Comment:
A gift for a mixer I've long admired. This was an interesting experience, because I see lanhamyodel's taste as being rather different from mine. So, while I like all the music herein, I don't think I would have ever made this particular compiliation if I didn't have him for inspiration. Far more instrumentals than I usually include, because I have an annoying tendency to sing along with the stereo. And for some reason I don't really understand, a lot of accordion.Oh, and he's even more fun to have a beer with than his mixes are to listen to.
Title from The Whyte Boots.
Feedback:
My guess is you've struck all the right notes with this one. Looks very interesting. That's a lucky lanhamyodel!
Groovy!
A great tribute to one of my favourite AotM mixers!
Nice selection here especially with BTla Fleck, Louis Jordan and Ahmad Jamal. BIG DRE's aunt worked in Jamal's nightclub

so advanced . .. .African Head Charge is a great pick.
I HATE HATE HATE Les Negresses Vertes and the complete works of "ding"-master Mano Chao. But the King Sunny AdT to Bela Fleck stretch alone makes up for tzhis MANY MANY MANY times. So, in short and all seriousness, this looks exquisite. And, er, does Claude have a Swiss accent?;)
I really dig mano chao as well this mix too
Don't know many of the tunes here but I for one would like to hear you sing along with them.
Thank you so much for this mix, Jenny! My absolute favorite is the King Sunny Ade track. The album "Juju Music" is one of my all-time top 10 favorites. The steel guitars floating on top of these irresistible rhythms never fail to captivate me.
I like most of the other tracks, too, and I love being exposed to new sounds and artists. I've been trying to post the mix I made for you without success for the last 12 hours, but I'm sure I will eventually succeed.
How did Thomas Mohr guess that there will be one Manu Chao track on my mix?

A lot to discover here. Looks very interesting.
Can't go wrong with King Sunny and a load of accordions
Ah, the essence of AOTM. You see a mix, filled with "unknowns". You start digging, and I mean diggin'. This mix is an explorer's dream, a true door opener. I'll get back to you when I achieve a higher state of enlightenment. Keep on pushing.
The 50% or so that I know here is killer stuff, will have to go digging too, in order to acquaint myself with the rest.
Slamming and hollerin' picks, Jenergy!
