Comment:

It all started when Joey de Vivre raised the musical question: What do sock monkeys listen to? Surely, we concluded, they would like poppy happy tunes that don't tax their little cotton-filled heads. And you know what REALLY makes the sock monkeys happy? Squeeze box . . . Squeeze box and BEER!!! Oh, and songs with titles like "Digga Digga Dum Dum" or "Ugga Ugga Boo Ugga Boo Boo Ugga," because sock monkeys aren't the most articulate of creatures, but they sure do know how to have fun.
Joey offers this bit of musical history trivia based on some quick internet searches: the Pearls' "Zippity Zippity Zoom" features vocals by the not-very-famous Dave Clowney, who went into the studio by himself a few years later to record -- not under his own name but as Dave "Baby" Cortez -- and had a surprise smash hit with the"The Happy Organ". This explains one of the many (well, 27 anyway) segues on this mix.

Jenergy has no musical trivia to share, but did find a rather frightening collection of sock monkey porn, which some of you may enjoy if you're sick little monkeys.

Thanks to lanhamyodel deja_vu_all_over_again for the delightful Chris Barber tune. Someone really should swipe it from this mix and put it on another, crediting JdV and me, then Joey can note that he got it from lanhamyodel, who can explain that he got it from . . . sheesh, this song is getting around like the Sock Monkey Flu!

Get your sock on.

I, for one, find it in VERY good taste to see the Red Hot Chili Peppers were NOT invited to this party (considering the trauma they have caused to much of the sock populace)This mix looks absolutely delighful. I thank you for allowing me to indulge (in the mix...the sock porn for another time)

Sock monkeys just want to have fun, & jenergy knows how to keep a barrel of monkeys jumping. This was a pleasure to do but I'd say it's even more of a pleasure to listen to.
(And the Chris Barber track, at least, is clearly highly infectious!)

looks like (laundry)loads of fun. if i were to add any general characteristics of sock monkey music, it'd have to be "mandatory kazoos".

Very funny, indeed. And hard to listen to without a smile on your face. It would be worth listening to just for the laugh of #16. The music world just hasn't been the same without Enoch's interpretations of current hits. And for some trivia, I have #19 on the original 45, as the B side to "The Mouse," Soupy's dance sensation that didn't sweep the nation. Thanks for the smiles. A definite MOTW contender.

I had no idea sock monkeys had such a good taste in music! I'll have to see if I can find one who's willing to work as my musical advisor. Thanks for this one!

My wife made sock monkeys. Damned things were taking over the house for a while.Suffice to say, it is a grand mix, just a tad late for us, they've all moved on to other's lives.

And I thought I was the only one who pondered what sock monkeys listen to. This looks amazing, Jenergy. I'm going to have to play it for my own little sock monkey -- perhaps it will pull him away from his current obsession with death metal. Silly little monkey.

Brilliant stuff, and a cute picture to boot. And I think you very much nailed the vibe here (if there's such a thing as a sock monkey vibe?) Love the Peter Sellers track! Oddly enough it was going through my head all day yesterday.

Music For Sock Monkeys? Why, you little vixen Miss Jenergy. I could bore you with stats here, I could say that the Captain Sensible track holds the record for the biggest leap to Number 1 in the UK ( 33-1 back in '82 ) but I won't, as it would establish myself as the biggest nerd living on Planet AOTM.
What I will say is this is wonderful. Love the Jo Stafford, Julie London & Dinah Shore picks ( I've been taking it 'Easy' recently ). Love 18-20 aswell, oh, and don't be surprised if tk 20 appears on a future mix of mine. Gotta Pay It Forward.....
