Comment:

Theme? what theme? The answer is personal, and it's this: I made this in 2001. It started out as a vague "country" thing, inspired by Oh Brother Where Art Thou? - hence the SOGGY BOTTOM BOYS. Then came "Man Of The World" -- this was so, god forgive me, emotionally resonant, I came over all pathetic. From here on every track took me back to an actual moment from my life. A Road To Damascus journey. A bloody time machine is what this is. Brilliant, twee, cheesy, crass, soppy, and momentous -- all of these may describe this track listing from my viewpoint. But each one is seared in my memory for some illogical reason. I can taste and smell the moments and see clearly the people and times they represent. I suppose it makes no sense to anyone but me. Nonetheless, here they are in no particular order - other than a personal aesthetic. A disparate collection that bears little relation to what others perceive as my musical taste. I am unsure if I even have such a thing. It's all music. It's all relevant to someone. Make of it what you will. Thanks for your time. Tom

"...musical taste. I am unsure if I even have such a thing. It's all music. It's all relevant to someone. Make of it what you will." Very well said. And a lovely mix as well.

Yhe Chapin, Gentry,Isaac, Willburies, Dylan and Taylor were all distant stops on my emotional highway. Nicely done.

This looks friggin marvellous Tom, That Kenny Rogers song was force fed to me from as early as the womb, I have long been an admirer of its charms. Great Lloyd Cole inclusion and 17-21 is aural velvet I tell thee.

This is very groovy, esp the Wilson (RIP), Taylor, and Cline picks.

I find this mix to be like many of my own "theme" discs... you either get it or you don't, and they hit the mark on each cut, for the maker of the mix (mixer?) and sometimes they do for others, which is the point, right? This is the kind of a mix that has more truth, more resonance than, say, a "memoir" like A Million Pieces...The cover is beautiful.

Beautiful Nomates!
For quite a few of us, more than not most likely, here on AotM muisc is a progenitor of memory; much like scent and weather to others. Your Lloyd Cole pick, for instance, reminds me of the late 80s-when it came out and also the first person who commented on this mix:Jeb Nagel. He lived next door. That track was played a whole lot back then, the whole album. And just seeing it, on the screen gives rise to all those memories of that time. We know exactly what you mean by "theme." It's life. Bravo!

I wonder how I missed this when it was first posted. Though too often said, and often misinterpreted, music is the soundtrack (to specific scenes) of our lives. At least for me there are tunes that place me in the moment (good or ill), and some of those tunes I do not like so much... Thanks Nomates

Very nice-looking mix, I can see how this could be a greatly resonant mix even if I don't know the particulars. One of Dylan's best, a really fun beginning and a classy end track.
