Comment:

The X Factor has finally finished its current run - thank all the gods -- and family life has every hope of a return to some semblance of dignified progression. Christmas is hurrying up the drive and preparing to wipe its feet. Dear old AOTM is up and down like the FTSE index. Dear old Dom1 is in, full on, mix fever. Dear old Nest of vipers has gone awol. It's official, dear old Princess Di was killed in an unfortunate accident - damn! Why didn't they ask me, I could have told them that. It's a race to see who can come up with an acceptable exit strategy from Iraq - perhaps a phone-in, it seems to work for everything else. The dear old vinyl/cassette/cd/iPod/download/upload/sharing/stealing debate rages ever on. Dear old West Ham have beaten United 1-0, and I cannot, for the life of me, figure out how they did it. Almost everyone's making a dear old "festive" mix, or a dear old "best of the year" mix. Some dear old self-gratifiers are still posting six-at-a-time, I -made-this-one-for-my-keyboard-shift-key mixes - the scamps!Dear old Take That are at number one and dear old Cliff Richard is at number two. Dear Old Oasis have released a "Best of" which does not contain "Whatever". So here's a dear old mix with absolutely no agenda whatsoever, save your dear old indulgence. If you like it, please let me know. If you do not like it, please let me know. If you wish to download it, please do. If you object to this practise, or actually believe it may be the root cause of AOTM's up/down misfortunes, please think very hard and very slowly - perhaps nip outside for a breath of "pollution", grab an "organic" foodstuff of some description and rejoice in any anti-smoking" legislation, slash the tyres of your nearest SUV, return to your environmentally-friendly pod-house and sip some de-caffeinated beverage and turn off all those bloody lamps - for surely it is the darkness that will save us all - please think of the children - no wait, that's probably illegal. I know, forget all that, just do the thinking part - you'll thank me later. If, as I suspect, you have better things to do, why are you still here? So, go on music lovers, do what you do best - love the dear old music, I know I do.

The Lady in the Radiator? Well that has solved the mystery of my erratic and tempermental central heating. For this I thank you. Good to see your name back on the hit parade Mr Nomates. This is a mixed bag of 'dear old' treats and I for one will be digging in and making a pig of myself. Your trademark ascerbic wit and your downright decentness (sic) has entertained me no end in '06. Happy Chrimbo Tom and a great '07 to you and yours mate.

Enough of the old! Firstly, Tom - I do hope by now we can drop the formalities - I must pay tribute to your cover art. Secondly, though downloading your mix would take me into the new year such is the slowness of dial-up, I know enough here to know what it might sound like. Once can't fail to admire any mix that includes such an eclectic array of talent. I suspect this mix will find it's way into many a home before the download expires. So Tom, though we joust from time to time, I hope to josh more than joust and I sincerely wish you a Merry X-Mas and may you always grace our mixes with, and I quote our fellow nation dweller Barry, 'your trademark acerbic wit.'

There I was outside in the garden breathing in some cow dung infused air, when I noticed some fucker had slashed the tyres on me SUV. Retiring indoors I discover the de-caff expresso machine had been emptied & someone had turned off all the bleedin' lights! Dear old Tom what's going on? Proof is in the pudding but I know already I'm gonna enjoy this treat. May yer wit ever be ascerbic mon ami. Tidings of goodness to thee good sir.

I'm with hemizen. Nice one, even if Jim Kerr's musical existence is pretty unforgiveable. ;-)

Yeah, I thought that our lives would be left in peace for a while after the X Factor finished, but then on C4 I saw an advert for...CELEBRITY BIG BROTHER. Be warned. At least it doesn't involve a Christmas single being put out, though I wouldn't put it past them. I love your notes, I love your mix, I even love your caps-non caps mixture! Particularly the Stereolab. Well done you and a merry Christmas and happy new year to boot.

Having listened to this twice I must say... It's Da Bomb. And I now believe EVERY mix should end with a reprise. Lots of new uns for me here, loved the opening trio, loved the Heather Nova live track. And, ( takes deep breath ) that Simple Minds song was fab!! Nice one Tom..

Your comments are definitely among the best I've read here, and the tracklist seems to live up to the greatness of the accompanying notes. I remain skeptical about the inclusion of the Simple Minds, but it seems like Sammy didn't come to his assessment lightly, so I'm definitely willing to give it a shot once YSI stops giving me a "system busy" error message...

gave this a listen at work today. it's wonderful! the opening three are lovely, then the 4th rises out of the mist. the Nick Drake and Kate Bush are already favorites, but I also really like that Stereolab tune. very nice, Nomates, and wish you the best over the holidays. [if I knew how, I'd put a picture of Rudolph right here.]

If the mix is half as good as the comment, count me in. And thanks for the needed non-Christmas mix.

I have nothing better to do than to admire this insiring mix and inspired notes. If the link could be re-activated somehow, Lazarus-style, there's more than a few of us who would have our hearts warmed.
