Comment:

A year ago today, I posted my debut mix on Art Of The Mix. Shunn789 was the first person to comment on it; I've been addicted to the site ever since. Shunn789 turned out to be a smashing bloke in New York named Bill. He is also the first AOTM'er that I traded with. Since that day I've discovered a world of musical joy and, with very few exceptions, friendliness. I am one of the least prolific mix posters; I'm also annoyingly opinionated, I know; and yet I have been made to feel a valued member of the wonderful gestalt that is Art Of The Mix dot com.I'm not trying to ingratiate myself here, I'm just telling it as I see it. My first year has been thoroughly enjoyable; so if you don't mind - ha! - I'll be signing up for another. The great "proper mix" debate rages, seemingly without end. This is as it should be. Blend it, tape it, burn it, make fancy covers, share it, trade it; above all, just mix it your way. My pet hates are: a lower case only fixation, an upper case only fixation, text-speak, those who post vast quantities (that's more than three) of mixes all at once, no accompanying notes or a random sequencing of notes generated by someone else, gratuitous gifs and jpegs that have no relevance of any kind, -- oh bollocks! - you see what I did. It's like I'm just handing out ammunition here.Enough then; it's the music that matters. The music that attracts and repels, yet links us all. Thank you Art Of The Mix, thank you all, and happy anniversary to me.Oops, I almost forgot - Christ! will he ever shut up - I know, I know, but the thing is I have a new mix to mark the occasion. Worse than that, it has its own notes and cover art. If there's any room left for your comments, I'd be much obliged. Thanks for your indulgence and here goes. Sipping good coffee at a street cafT. All the smokers huddled over espressos, feigning disinterest in the passing world. A mobile phone vibrates on a nearby table and a connection is made. Blink - a flying, buzzing thing flickers at the edge of visibility and away go thoughts. Sunshine, moonlight, the hum of busy streets, laughter and car horns. Bodies passing, touching, avoiding, closing gaps, a kiss, a handshake, hips swaying and feet a-flurry. Walking, talking, singing, dancing, driving, loving, hating, wanting, rejecting, dreaming and drifting. Past, present, tomorrow, soon.
And always the music -- there, right there - from the throbbing bass of in-car dance halls, the tinny shriek of a thousand iPods, from shops and restaurants and the mind. The mind that picks up a beat, a rhythm that turns its tables and twists the circling songs into an idea, a sequence. It makes perfect sense at the time. It must out. A mix is born. How will it fare in this world? Let's find out.

Well I'll be blowed, you wait around for what seems like forever for a Nomates creation and then just like busses... Well you get my drift. This looks utterly marvellous and I will listen immediately. Go on post two more right now so I can chastise you for your bad manners. I jest of course. Thanks for the link Tom, I will return with my findings presently

Wonderful mix Tom. Masterfully blended with the songs to back it up. Track 11 and the finale being my favourite bits. I'd say this should provide food for thought foe the anti segue brigade. You show 'em mate!

Congrats on your 1st anniversary. Mine passed me by which narked me somewhat. The mix itself is excellent. I listened to it with no tracklist to hand. As a lot of this was new to me it was nice to hear the familiarity of Jumbo in the middle. The closing stretch was delightful, in particular 11 & 14. Great stuff..

I know only a few songs here (Thievery Corporation, Pet Shop Boys, Underworld and The Orb) Good choices! By the way, the rest looks interesting.

Congrats and happy anniversary. This is a cool mix... even if I don't jump for joy at the site of each of these tracks individually (and there are those that I do jump for), I appreciate the flow of this and your effort.

Jeez, and here I thought I was the least prolific poster. I'll have to work harder. Happy Anniversary (I have no clue when mine is) and thanks for the link. You're correct, I have no regrets. Great mix.

Have always enjoyed your mixes, notes and comments, Nomates, and this is no exception. Masterfully arranged, seriously. and I love the street cafT scene you envisioned to accompany it.

I finally had an opportunity to download and groove on this. Exceptionally well done Mr. No. Congrats on a year of stellar commentary (and the occasional mix.)

well now that we've both been here for an entire year, I guess we're probably in for life. and I'm saying that's a good thing. finally got to hear this yesterday, and it's very nice. my favorites are Mood Mosaic, Gui Boratto and the Boogie Macs' remake of that song about the Ipanema girl. and I've been a Kate Bush fan for a long, long time. looking forward to your next one.

Fantastic.

Would go so far as to say that this is arguably your best work yet. Perhaps climbing above the dizzy heights reached by 'Perchance Al Sogno' and the delightful 'A Happy Medium' - Maybe even surpassing the behemoth that is 'Filled With Secrets'. This mix joins the Pantheon of heroic Nomates Mixes and seizes control in a fashion worthy of any good Military coup.

Every track reeks of quality and better still are the blends. Is this to you what the Mona Lisa or Last Supper is to Da Vinci? Is this your Lord of the Rings?

Long may you continue.

Your fine 'Burden Of Proof' mix led me here Tom, where was I when this was posted? Bugger o' bugger I missed the download; Praps after the festivities of the season are over & we've both recovered we might facilitate a trade by 'snail mail' (I still have no idea how to provide d/l links, praps in 07 I'll get hipped) Thanking you for the abundance of classic comments you've submitted over the year, they've kept me well entertained. Wishing you & yours all the very best this Chrimbo & the coming year.
