From Olive To Julia
Comment:
31. WOODSTOCK: "Lotta groovy people"32. THE DOORS: Riders On The Storm
33. MOHANDAS K. GHANDI: The Existence Of God
34. PINK FLOYD: Wish You were Here
35. JOHN LENNON: Julia (Take 2)
36. SIMON & GARFUNKEL: Old Friends/Bookends (Reprise)This is a CD. 36 Tracks, 77mins. 28secs. Duration. Continuing the "soundtrack of our lives" theme (groan). I made this for my sister (ahhh). Mum and Dad, well Dad mostly, christened her Olive. She never liked this - and who would blame her. As soon as she was able she adopted her middle name (Julia) and that is who she is to us all. As is usual in mixes of this nature, each song is relevant to the proposed recipient. These were the songs, mostly singles that she and I purchased and hammered to death on the old Dansette. For example, she taught me to dance with the aid of Donnie Elbert. We made the shift to "Hi-Fi", and I believe the moment is clearly illustrated here. Of course this mix of songs, interspersed with interviews and "poignant" sound clips, represents the tip of the proverbial iceberg in relation to our, shared, love of all things musical. However, It does emphasise potent high spots of our time at home, growing up together. I love Julia and her constant search for that elusive "truth". This mix encapsulates my fondest memories of her. I hope it entertains any who hear it. Please forgive the horrible tweeness of my ramblings. I, obviously, have no qualms about these matters, else why post the thing? Don't answer that. Oh dear, the button is labelled "submit" - I cannot resist...

Beautiful Tom, really and truly.
so personal! I feel as though I found your letters and read each one out loud. (brilliant quote. hope you don't mind my recycling.) olive these songs would be wonderful to have grown up with; hope you & your sis pass them on if you have young'uns. real sweet.
Very cool and thanks for the download.
Excellent mix, sentiments and purpose. Thanks.
Looks like quite the endeavor..I always appreciate mixes with this much thought put into them. Wonderful.
So lovely.
Beautiful, just beautiful.
Really fantastic. You put a hell of a lot of work into this, your sis is lucky!

That's quite a sizzling sibling soundtrack! Makes me wish I'd had a sister to teach me to dance, and/or that we'd danced to Timothy Leary. The whole mix looks fabulous.
It was a good listen. I had to start posting the pics to my website, and put this on, and had an easy go of it. I ran into a snag with my links when Joni Mitchell came up and I felt like strangling her, yet nonetheless felt Scorcese would be proud of your soundtrack. While he is an easy director to please, I don't think it speaks any less of your piece of work. What I really enjoyed was how the end looped back into the beginning seamlessly. A very nice effort, Tom, and sis should pat you on the back for it.
What can i say? Suberb, quite simply.
I notice it says on the front cover Volume 1, are there further volumes? If so I demand that you put them into the public domain. Encore! Encore!!
Beautiful mix, and the sentiments inspiring it....mmmm, I love that Conley-into-Gaye segue, reminds me of my aunt teaching me how to dance.
