Comment:
Late 60s to early 70s mix with a taste for the heavy funk grooves and fuzz guitar splashed in liberally. Can't get much higher than the Andes and the Peruvian contingent aim to prove it here! Elsewhere, the African contingent was exploring what "all the ruckus was about" having finally caught on to turnin' on...bass is the place!-valis
Feedback:
Despite not knowing a single track here, I do know your work brother Valis and I can only assume it's brilliance that goes along with your genius.
You gotta Funkacise!!
You gotta Funkacise!!
Wow, aside from the Fela and Osibisa... I don't know this stuff. Would really love to hear this.
Triple thick funk and one fine cover. Name yer price for this one, brother man!
Wow! Around the world with hot! That Demon Fuzz track is off of "Afreaka", right? That's way obscure and plenty beautiful...thanks for bringing it up again! And the Chico Magnetic Band? Man, I'd forgotten all about them!! They had a guitarist that everyone compared to Hendrix back then. It's been so long that I can barely remember what they sounded like, 'cept that they knocked me out! Once again, Valis struts his stuff and takes us for a spin into worlds beyond...
Bass is the place with me mon ami. Out in Dubai earlier this year, Gobi turned me on to Demon Fuzz & for that I'll be for ever grateful. Funkin' fantastic mix!
The Natural is where it's at. Can't decide which title I like better: "Expensive Shit," "Pa Pa Pa," or "Gbe Me Lo." Those JB LPs got around.
My oh my. That William Onyeabor tune is the fucking business. And that's the most stylish cover art I've seen in a long time. And three Peruvian tracks? You're spoiling me. All around amazing, valis.
Magnifico!
Only heard a couple of songs here, which means I got to have it, looks delicous
This is really great stuff and a suprisingly defferent Valisian volume.
Looks fascinating and intoxicating.
I trade you my wife and kids for this-ok and one of the dogs-but I get to choose which dog. Bootyful.
I'm familiar with only a couple of the tracks here. Looks like I need to hear this one.
Intriguing
Fascinating, intruiging, intoxicating, indeed. As Aaron Neville once said ' I don't know much, but I know I'd love this'.
what sammy said - this looks beyond intriguing.
Like groove366, I only really know Fela Kuti and Osibisa, but, oh my, what a tasty-looking collection. Splendido!
Motherfucker. Motherfucker! I must hear this (I can already smell it). I'm mostly in the dark here, 'cept for Fela 'course. Valis you are the shit.
This is something I would love to hear. It looks magnificent.
God damn, this looks fantastic. I'd love to hear it.
As people have said: I know barely anything, but it looks fantastic.
my ears are aching for this one, looks outta this world. and I echo the Orchid on the art.
Yup, you've stumped the band with most of these selections. But almost everyone here knows that Valis mixes are plum full of tunes that will make the ears grow fonder. Like Flanders said to Mr. (Curtis) Burns: you are the shit.
Wow - I'm seriously lagging behind here. I can't admit being any more enlightened than most people here - Fela Ransome Kuti is about the extent of my knowledge - but I do know that I would love to hear this. Makes me excited that there's even more new and delectable stuff out there just waiting to be heard. Good work!
dewd, ya gotta make me a copy of this...i've been wanting to hear expensive shit again since the late 80's!!!!!!!
great mix!
great mix!
valis spins the globe & I'm left in the dust just trying to imagine a Peruvian Pa Pa Pa -- shoot, I don't even know my hometown USA contingent here -- but when valis is flying the plane, I don't even have to know where he's going, I'll hop on board -
This is my kind of stuff. Funk from Per·? I must start searching. Very groovy.
Oh, I want. Want it want it want it!
Funkenfuzz - there is a concept! Never heard one single thing here, but well comprehend the art of the valis touch...
funkenfuzz indeedy . . . I know a few here and will research some more. Excellent job, I feel some funk coming on myself . . .
Something reeks MOTW about this.
excellent mix valis, i think we are collecting similar albums, i did a similar mix awhile ago (world rocks or something similar) but i don't think it was finished off with first class artwork ! but 'back to peru' is amazin. well done and very deserving of motw.
Congrats mon ami, well deserved it is too.
"Uniquity" indeed! Congratulations!
MOTW to boot! Felicitations!
El Mix de La Semana - bien merecido, O Mestre.
Hooray! Congratulations valis!
I know not a single cut, either, but didn't want to be left off the praise wagon! Afro power!
Congrats, If there's a pile that says "Peter AlzTn MurmSstarg 33a 80270 GSvle Sweden " on it, put this one there too
I commented early on that I would love to hear this mix and then it magically turned up in my mailbox. So now I can say from aural experience that this is an awesome collection of that heavy funk groove that I love so much. Every track is killer. Those two cuts from Peru are a particular ear opener. And that closer... intense stuff. Congratulations on a very deserving MOTW.
Congratulations: well deserved indeed! Echoing the comments below, I'd love to hear this as well. If there's anything of mine you want in exchange for this, do let me know. If I can't tempt you with mixes, I make mean brownies too. SEE me resort to bribery through baked goods...
Well done! And in that order...
Like many others, I only have heard of a few artists here, but by globetrotting looks and smashing cover, it looks like a winner. Congrats on MOTW!
Congrats on mix of the week. Well done.
Congrats on the mix of the week bro...the entire thing, from end to end was stinging, swinging, sweet and hot! Valis rules! (Yet another soundtrack of our lives, eh?).
Congratulations, valis on a much deserving honour. Now, your next goal has to be reaching...
Congratulations on MOTW!
congrats indeed valis...a fab lookin' mix!
Congrats, sire, this is a swell-looking piece of excellent shit indeed. Can't wait to find it in that lil' mailbox o' mine . . .
goddamn, don't know much here, but w/ the som imaginario and fela presence it's gotta be awesome!
i wanna 'fro like that - fantastical!
Re your comment on one of my mixes: aaaargh - didn't read that one until too late (about Plasticland's show last night). Oh well - they do play out a couple times yearly...
Terrific work! An exotic funky, psyche-y vibe with plenty of hot instrumental action. My fave tracks: 1, 9, 14. (I must like Nigerian music.) You have brought back the goods, O Traveler.
ahh, Valis. not sure how it all happened, but I was indeed surprised and pleased simultaneously when this showed up in the mail at work. it was well worth the wait, and my ears no longer ache as they did back in August of '06. loved both Ofege tracks, Bwana, Hot Butter's Sound, Demon Fuzz, Chico Magnetic Band, and I wanted the Fela Ransome Kuti & the Africa '70 track to go on for another 13 minutes. really wonderful from start to finish, my work colleagues and I agree. thanks!
