Comment:

A mix for Julian on the occasion of his 3rd birthday. I wanted to give him something he'd enjoy but which wouldn't drive his parents crazy. Hence the dearth of Raffi.

Thanks to the Misfit for the Warren Zevon and Valis for The Dukes. Also to Sean Lally & Gerry M for making CDs with great songs I only had on vinyl & was too lazy to convert.

Title from Camper Van Beethoven. Julian loves scooters & insists that his big wheel is actually a Vespa. Suggestions for other songs that mention Vespa Scooters greatly appreciated.

Very cool. I might have to annoy you with a request for that The Asylum Street Spankers track...quite intrigued. And, lastly I LOVE that cover art selection...toooo cool for school.

Well, Jenny, you've just confirmed what many people long suspected. That I have the intellect of a 3 year old, cos I think this is marvellous. Bloody, bloody marvelous! Sugar Town appears on an alt-dj mix that I'm involved in that is nearly completed. Great minds etc etc...

Love it too! What a lucky kid. I remember a couple cool songs about scooters by the German ska band the Busters, but I don't have anything by them anymore...

Great, great, great. Always nice to know I'm not the only one who sees the importance of exposing my kids to profanity at an early age!

As for Vespa scooters -- The Who's "I've Had Enough" (from Quadrophenia) name-checks a GS Scooter, which I believe is a type of Vespa.

The mix is a rollickin' good ride -- oh yes it is! But it's Lambrettas for me every time.

This is ace! I know it's a challenge making a mix for a three year old, but you did a wonderful job. I have a song from a 60s soundtrack called "Vespa Road" I'll e-mail you an mp3.

Arg! I have this on tape somewhere, I'll try to make you a copy...does't look like the cd is very available anymore, but a great scooter song in cute Germanic English...

From The Busters' Ruder Than Rude album...

SCOOTER MANIACS

jimmy was a boy aged 17
but he was the leader of a gang
they chopped down their scooters into hot rockets
always on the run

they were scooting in formation
through the streets at night
motors and horns were blowing
looking for a fight

they are scooter maniacs
riding down the road
boys and girls go out of the way
of jimmy and his "crazy mods"

respirated scooters in two-tone colors
mostly black and white
chrome additions everywhere
mirrors left and right

a 20 feet long aerial
with a fox-fur on the top
27 lamps shine brighter than the sun
bought in the local scooter shop

they were scooting in formation
through the streets at night
motors and horns were blowing
looking for a fight

a 20 feet long aerial
with a fox-fur on the top
27 lamps shine brighter than the sun
bought in the local scooter shop

they are scooter maniacs
riding down the road
boys and girls go out of the way
of jimmy and his "crazy mods"

This is absolutely fantastic - I'm sure both he and his parents will thank you for this one! There's a song called Lambretta Vespascoota by The Pop Rivets - it's a fun little track; a bit shouty but, as far as I recall, pretty much kid-friendly. I'll try to send you a copy. Otherwise the Pink Floyd and Nancy Sinatra are both excellent; I've always thought the White Stripes one was a great kids' pick; and I love that you've included that Specials track too! Well done.

Looks good and probably it sounds as good, if I can get yousendit to cooperate in downloading it.

I don't know any songs mentioning Vespa's but you can always try the French band Pastel Vespa. They did a very funny cover of Anarchy in the UK, in French ofcourse.
