Comment:

This was part of my brother's Christmas present. We listened to it over Christmas dinner. There we were, around the table with the cracker-pulled silly paper hats on our heads, the Christmas tree in the background and the good food and what have you, and then The Cranberries' Zombie kicks in. At which point some comments were made about Christmas cheer, but never mind. The title is paraphrased from an episode of Curb Your Enthusiasm (which my brother's a big fan of), where Larry believes his father has mistakenly sent his cousin a smoking jacket that he had been promised - the line really tickled me for some reason. And of course, a very happy 2007 to all of you - let's make it a good one!

Crikey. We must have been typing at the same time! How very cute. And we both feature 'The Miracles', excellent choice. Love your opening 5, along with the Hawley, TS, Calexico, Four Tet... And of course 'Night Fever'. Great stuff Siobhan :)

As much as I loathe the Cranberries (and that song in particular), what I know from the rest of this looks pretty-great to great. I'm particularly fond of those Curtis and Smokey classics.

just saw the new 007 film the other day, so my work colleague and I were trying to recall all the Bond theme songs. the Matt Monro is one of the best, and makes a great karaoke number, by the way. and as much as some of Dead or Alive's (my favorite group for 3 months in 1985) music is horribly dated now, that song you picked is still as fresh as if it had just come out of the oven. hope your 2007 has been a good one so far, Siobhan.

And a happy 2007 to you as well! Lovely mix for your brother. Not sure what his favorites are, but I like the Tahiti 80 (Fosbury finally got released in the States), Stereo Total and Del Tha Funkee Homosapien song tracks the mostest. "Zombie" always puts me in a warm Christmasy mood. Pass the cranberries please.

Ah, yes, I know that episode of Curb.

Nice selections. Count me in among the Miracles fans.

I'm probably one of three people on the planet who can't stand "Curb Your Enthusiasm" but I do love this mix, particularly the 15-19 stretch.

Now this is a feisty little thing. The first ten tracks are an essay in musical excellence. The final 11 are a stupendous addendum. I do believe it's a slap upside the head of a mix. Fantastic inclusion of Matt Monro -- didn't see that coming, but woah baby!As to the playing of this over Christmas Dinner, well that's just an act of pure self-indulgence. Even I would have baulked. What were you thinking? It's Christmas! It's family time! It's wonderfully mired in tradition! I hope you've learned your lesson and will not repeat such a bizarre act of thoughtlessness. Nonetheless, it's a corker! I'm always surprised at the "venom" certain "popular" bands (U2, Simple Minds, Cranberries, Smashing Pumpkins -- insert many other quite meritable groups here) provoke round these parts. I mean, jeez, never mind who made them, some songs are just good. There are many artists who I would probably despise on a personal level (Sid Vicious and Jim Morrison spring to mind), but I cannot deny that they have made some fine music (well, maybe not Sid Vicious - the vacuous little shithead). I will stop ranting now, sorry about that. Happy New Year to you. I have no doubt that you will keep up the good work.

Your brother is lucky. My sibling doesn't have the same taste in music with me at all so its usually clothes as presents for me. Anyway, great 1-2-3 opener. Quite grabbing.

Oh yeah, this looks really stellar, Siobhan. Consistently great picks from top to bottom. Love the Low->Curtis Mayfield opening stretch a bunch and that's probably my favorite Bjork song...so great. Anyways, super mix. :-)

Oh so nice. It almost makes me wish I had a sibling - not something I generally feel. The SNF sound track has surely improved with age.
