Comment:
Hail Voyagers!!!As a sixth navigation 'round the Sun nears, being here at Art of the Mix, methinks it about time to move on and call this finished. I've certainly enjoyed my time here and met many (!!!) great carbon-based bipeds, some of whom I only hope will continue to fill up my inbox with wonderful news, tips on great music, and the delights of rum, etc.
Enduring friendships. That's what I'll take away from this experience. Too numerous to mention everyone, suffice it to say "you know who you are" and leave it at that. (I'd lay a quote on you, as per many of my mixes, but think the Rockfour track captures the thoughts best.)
Best wishes to all, sincerely. Happy Solstice!
This mix is available for download, along with any I might do as we continue our ride 'round the bright Orb,at my blog . Vaya con Pan mi amigos!
Feedback:
They say "all good things come to an end." To which I reply, "all things transmogrify." Valis' trips, hurtling around his "bright Orb," are always transforming. I'm forever grateful that he's allowed me to tug on his coattails. All hail the passing of the eye! May it live forever!
Thanks V, this looks stunning! You have been and will continue to be a big loss around here. You'll find a mass of open arms should you ever reconsider. Thank you for the music.
Well I'm not here to drink all the beer
in the fridge...not @ all. Simply to say I'm glad t'see you've resurfaced & to wish you a happy solstice back. I'll await the link...
...which I know for a fact is forthcoming (a little bird told me, before he flew south for the winter).

Someone mention rum? Adios but not goodbye mon ami. The site will be so much the worse for your departure, onwards and upwards though, you've gone out with a bang, not that I'd have expected anything less from you.
from now on the days would be longer so I cheer with you, happy holdiays too from me and Mike
Thanks For The Memories, Valis.. And The Mixes.
It was almost five years ago I read an article in the NY Times about AOTM. That's also when I discovered Valis and knew I was staying. Your mixes in my collection have always had a special place on my shelves and in particulaly high rotation. I've checked your backlog of mixes from time to time when I was looking for some unique groups and albums to add to my collection. If it was on a mix of yours it was worth exploring. Your influence went way beyond music too. From Borges to Sitarycon to ____/^\___ you've rocked my world. Looking forward to a valis sighting in the future. Thanks and have a great holiday.
May the Eye of Horus watch over you my brother on the next phase of your journey. One of these days I'll join you in Belize and we'll split that bottle of rum and howl at the moon.
what a marvelous, marvelous way to go out - hope you reconsider sometime in the future, but for now this is mouth-watering...
I was wondering what Sam was uploading on Flickr...Great mix, and I will echo the sentiments of all in hoping you hang around a bit more...
Oh, yeah, and double-kudos for getting the reclusive Mr. Franklin Onn to comment on the mix...
Really poignant thoughts and incredible quotables to you, as well, Valis. See you outside these boards.Shazbot.
So I'm like, a new mix from valis, well that is good news. And sheesh... it's a farewell. It has been great traveling with you. Compliments again on all the eye-opening mixes. That includes this beauty playing now.
Just remember, AOTM is like a family. People can fight, bicker, and go astray - or worse yet, fail to comment on someone's mix - and they are always welcome back. Peace.
Six years?! Where has the time gone. Sad to hear that we won't find your mixes here anymore, but I know our friendship and sharing of music will continue for many solstices to come. You've turned me on to so many amazing artists and songs through your outstanding mixes. I always know my ears and mind are in for a treat when a find one of your collections in my mailbox. And thanks to Sammy for putting together a collage of your always stellar artwork.
Tis an amazing way to say farewell. Good luck wherever life and music may take you.
A quite wonderful, but not surprising, way to bow out, amigo. Your fantasmagorical mixes are my favs of all (no disrespect to other great AOTM'ers), and I have to raid your collection in the near future to get the (very few) ones which I do not possess. I perhaps cannot speak from a position of strength, since I haven't been around this side of the galazy much myself of late, but I KNOW I speak for all at AOTM when I say you will be greatly, sadly, indescribably missed!
I am hugely honoured to be considered a friend, and it will be ever thusly so.....say hello to Sirius for me.....

And in that magical way in which we associate certain songs and albums with periods and moments in our lives, I cannot begin to describe what an indelible mark various VALIS mixes have left on my psyche. Bravo!
You say you are gone but how can that be? Whenever I hear Rockfour (thank you for them) among many others, I think of you."Come eat oranges with me
Peel them with your fingers
Down where people cannot see
Let yourself go free"Namaste, brother.

If there was a perfect send-off then this is yet. Amazing, amazing mix, my friend.
How very very fitting. Thanks Chris I am glad somebody marked this for posterity. The warmth in the comments on this mix really make me smile. Bravo.
Well done Monsieur Gnome, a fitting and proper send off indeedy.
Not farewell, but fare forward Voyager.
Congrats and good luck in the next phase. Thanks for the many sounds, images and gin & tonics over the last six rotations.
Valis, I never got to know you being new here, but what a beautiful mix! I've added your blog to my favorites and hope to get to know you better through your efforts there.
You've always been one of my favorite mixers here, Valis, and this one looks like a quite a ride. See you in the Art of the Mix afterlife (aka the blogosphere).
i can't think of a more worthy MOTW - congrats on all accounts
Felicidades de nuevo, compadre, ojalß no te desaparezcas asf como dices.
This looks like it is worthy of all the praise it has received so far, and then some. It's especially delighting to hear that it will work well when listened to in a circular style, as it certainly seems worthy of being listened to in a loop a few times over. I look forward to giving this a try!
holy shit, v...this just caught me way off guard. many, MANY thanks to you good sir for all of the fine mixes and kind words throughout the years. i'm pretty deep into some terrapin coffee oatmeal imperial stout this evening and very sleepy and soemwhat emotional to begin with, but you will be missed, good sir. i will do my best to keep in touch. i'll hit you up backchannel later on, but...once again, thanks for everything. you are an inspiration.
Sorry to hear your legendary flash of pink light will no longer illuminate this site. I'm slowly catching on to how amazing the music blog scene is, and I'll keep yours in the bookmark bar. Looking forward to giving this one a spin!
Hey, good to see The Go on a mix! Sorry you have to go, though. Happy holidays & good luck.
Speechless. Perplexed. And knowing that All return. Tanoshii mi ni shite imasu, tomodachi.
Unbelievable mix! I'm new to the site but I'll miss you based on this alone. Thanks so much.
A fine conclusion. And your many fine mixes and your many fine comments will ensure that your name will ever linger upon the lips of all that know and all that knew of them, and all that know and that knew of you.The door will remain ajar. All the the best to you.
A belated happy holidays. congrats on MOTW, fare thee well and thanks for all of my eyes that you have opened.
Merry Christmas, congratulations, and what a T. O. P mix!
"where you goin' to run to now, where you, where you gonna go?"
Can we come along?
Can we come along?
Valis, you are a great mixer, and I was extremely pleased that I had the opportunity to trade with you. Nice to see you finish things here with a mix that looks as great as all the rest.
another fine collection, Valis. congrats on earning mix of the week. my favorites on this one are U.N.P.O.C., Planet Superfly, The Donkeys and Doleful Lions. I sure have enjoyed your last few mixes... but why get out now when the water's so warm? don't go. Happy Holidays!
While I'm sad to see that you're not planning on posting these enlightening mixes here anymore, I'm happy that you'll still be around at your blog. There is a shiney new link to "Trip Inside This House" over at "Like...Dreamsville" This is a fantastic mix as usual, my friend. I'm sure our interstellar paths will continue to cross.
Have fun Valis!
Vaya con Pan, indeed. Thanks, Valis - you're the best. And so is this mix.
Nice mix. Happy trails.
