Comment:

"Writing about music is like dancing about architecture," Frank Zappa claimed. This mix hopes to show that both of these activities are perfectly viable, and that when it comes to rocking tunes, any genuine response is a good response.
1. Black Sabbath spin metal riffs into epic sonic skyscrapers in Spiral Architect.
2. Medeski, Martin & Wood make a song go "pop" before our ears in Bubblehouse.
3. Simon & Garfunkel bid a modern master farewell in So Long, Frank Lloyd Wright.
4. Modest Mouse speed through Tiny Cities Made of Ashes in a flaming car made of coolness.
5. Sting builds a Fortress Around Your Heart - and lays mines in his own.
6. Fugazi pile phrase on phrase without once using the word "post-punk" in "Stacks."
7. Calexico splash a dollop of plaster on the soundboard in the minimalist Stucco.
8. Jazzmataz icon Guru asks listeners to Respect the Architect of dope rhymes.
9. Feeling dwarfed by the massive buildings of Mussolini-era Italy, Bruce Cockburn vows to tear down the Fascist Architecture in his own mind.
10. In Cities, Talking Heads contemplate a change of address.
11. Architecture in Helsinki's City Calm Down is perfect for sunny drives uptown with the skyline dancing on your sunglasses.
12. In Perfect Blue Buildings, Counting Crows singer Adam Duritz turns to the creature comforts as his life becomes less and less "perfect."
13. The Decemberists indulge their love for structural detail in the sublime pop of Here I Dreamt I Was An Architect.
14. Ton Steine Scherben hail the crumbling of a corrupt power structure in Der Turm stnrzt ein.
15. Life In A Glass House gets panicky when Radiohead squeal off into ragtime.
16. John Zorn's Latin Quarter vividly depicts life in the jazziest stretch of Naked City.
17. In Tower of Song, Leonard Cohen pays in poetry what lesser mortals pay in cash, cheque or credit. If songs are buildings, he is the architect.
18. Avail tears Mellencamp's Pink Houses to shreds. Be afraid, America - be very afraid.

Very nicely done. Like George Costanza, I always dreamt of being an architect. The dream lives on here.

You could probably make a whole CD of this subject from Talking Heads alone. Utterly compelling, a really splendid concept.

Wonderful! Could also consider "The Army Corps of Architects" by DCFC.

Very well done.

Great debut, and a belated welcome to the site from me. 7, 10, 13 and especially my favourite leonard Cohen track mark the spot for me...
