Comment:

This mix is a musical exploration of "homeland" hosted by songwriters from around the planet.

1. Ervin Webb & Group's spiritual I'm Goin' Home is one of countless recordings made by folklorist Alan Lomax in the 1930s.
2. In Down In Mississippi, Mavis Staples appraises her home state with the same vocal fervour she brought to the civil rights movement.
3. Damon Albarn went to Mali to record the cozy Griot Village with Afel Bocoum.
4. Pirate-leprechauns The Pogues sail to Cape Horn in the rowdy South Australia.
5. Sufjan Stevens turns a history lesson into epic anthropomorphism in the folksy pop of Decatur Or A Round of Applause for Your Stepmother.
6. Herbert Groenemeyer takes a last look at his hit parade past in Keine Heimat.
7. Bruce Springsteen's My Hometown contrasts the joy of a boy riding on his daddy's lap with the effects of racism and Reaganomics on small-town America.
8. Bob Marley urges Rastafarians to head for Zion in the regal reggae of Exodus.
9. In Subterranean Homesick Alien, Radiohead's Thom Yorke begs extraterrestrials to swoop down and rescue him from British country life.
10. In Homeless, anonymous UK artist Burial crafts a habitable "soundscape."
11. Oh, My Sweet Carolina finds Ryan Adams missing Kentucky in a city where the sunset is only his "light bulb going out."
12. The Beatles' Back in the U.S.S.R. turned Chuck Berry on his duck-walking head.
13. Chris Whitley and Jeff Lang search for a heretic's homeland in their Delta-flavoured Dislocation Blues.
14. Tin Hat Trio's Old World fuses traditional styles with postmodern chamber music, creating a still life that teems with passionate nostalgia.
15. In Hometown Blues, Steve Earle reminds us that nothing's sadder than a home one has outgrown - and that nothing lifts spirits like a bluegrass song.
16. In Sµgl=pur, Sigur R=s' tale of a diver returned home, the serene Icelandic countryside finds its sonic mirror.
17. In Tom Waits' The Day After Tomorrow, a disillusioned soldier writes home from a war. What does he miss most? His answer may surprise you.
18. In Safe European Home, The Clash send the xenophobes home to roost after touring abroad a day too long.
19. Edith Piaf soars in Paris, her pledge of love to a city she did not have the honour of dying in.

No. 11 alone makes me love this mix. My absolute favourite Adams-song. The rest of the mix isn't too bad either, Sigur R=s, Marley, Clash, Beatles, Radiohead, Stevens et. al. All good.

There's no place like home, there's no place like home . . .
Thanks for your kind comment on my T. Rexstatic mix. Yes, we are both Pandora-deprived: you in Austria, me in Japan.
