Comment:
Made for a brother-in-law who is (like his sister, my wife) a Western movie fan(atic!). Plus, he's one of the "W" guys; Worldly-wise; Well-read; Wealthy enough for Whims; Well, physically and mentally; and "Wow!" when you meet him. He's sent me so much "stuff" this past eight months that I wanted to do this for him. Stacie'll get a large kick out of it too....it's an inside joke because I still don't know what show Festus was on, or the difference between the characters in Bonanza, Big Valley, etc.....sometimes she gets "Lee Van Cleef" on me! Hey...could you pass the spaghetti..?
Feedback:
"...I went walking, with a Bible & a gun..." I love that line. Very cool themed mix, pardner !
Ha! I haven't heard some of these songs in a long ass time. Great job by the way.
Trivia Q: who was Matt Dillon's sidekick before Festus ?
valis, my friend this looks excellent as always. By the way, thanks for that link you sent me earlier in the week. It came at just the "right" time. ;)
Very cool Valis. Lorne Greene rocks...or something ;-)
"heap" big mix-um, valis.
Any mix that kicks off with Calexico piques my interest...
Chester was before Festus. Never knew why he walked around with a stiff leg all the time ... think it had something to do with Miss Kitty. Nice mix by the way valis. Say, didn't Ringo sing "Lorne Greene"? Maybe on Beatles '65 or something. Oh well, it's getting late. Get a long little doggie ...
So THIS is what you do with your time while your wife's out of town ;-) Looks like time well spent. I LOVE Cooder's Long Riders' soundtrack. Even though I liked the movie, I was never a big fan o' Westerns: to me, Lee Van Cleef is a Kung Fu master! (with a SAG card, of course...)
fookin' cool man, i've completely forgot Havana 3am, thanks for rminding me
Excellent. Makes me want to crank up the stereo and put the Western Channel on TV.
this looks very good like your others mix
Looks great partner! I might not know the difference between Gunsmoke and Bonanza, but I do know an outstanding mix when I see one. Wish I could be a "W" guy as well. I'm afraid I'm just a "Y" for life.
a grreat mix! that klf - track tops it for me!!
Franklin: I knew it was Chester! (Yeah.., right.) 7 on 7: ahh, "to taste and to touch, and to feel as much as a man can before he repents..." (Also, Franklin, I think it was on "Revolver"...) Scott K: Yep, this IS what I do, keeps me outta' most trouble.... p, you're welcome! Ion: Hmm, a "Y" guy...., I'll get back to ya' on that. Thanks Adr80, Shawn, Burcham, and the omnipresent g.a.b. labber! Curtis.., don't mess with Festus!...or whoever he was! Big Valley?
Looks my-dee fine, valis :~)
Quite brilliant, once again, my friend. I always expect the unexpected from you. Sounds kinda like Kentucky fried movie? The Marty Robbins and Pogues trax are favourites of mine. The Lee Marvin track from Paint Your Wagon is a guilty pleasure. The first movie my parents ever took me to see.
A twangy, tongue-in-cheek homage to the hard-drinking, gun-toting, spur-jangling, heavily moustached and behatted heroes from down home on the Hollywood (or CinTcitta) range. Draw a bead. Give it a shot. Can't lose on this one, pardner.
To Gerry: The first movie my parents ever took to see me was the William Wyler version of "Ben Hur" (on re-release, of course, I'm not THAT old a fart). I wonder what a mix inspired by THAT might look like . . .
"...the sun is sinkin' in the west" dino
Better than it looks like. I discover a lot on it (marty robbins, guy clark, lorne greene). I'm not familiar with country. The "rock" side is also really good. Thancks again
Good, yah. But where's the Dream Syndicate? "If I have to choose between doing penance and... doing time/Going down to the Medicine Show."
a lot of timeless treasures on this. I can't express the beauty of the Lee Marvin song, extra points for the forshadowing in the KLF song, very clever mixing. conjures great images for me. Riding across the desert ona mechanical donkey. Reminds me of Westworld with Yul Brenner.
Hey Amigo,
Little bit of the good, the bad & the ugly (at least Shane MacGowan can sing)in here. Love the Havana 3AM cut and was, in fact, listening to their album last night. I can visualize the bounty hunter, lighting a cigar and whistling.

aaaaaaahhhhhh Lee Marvin... I can't think of anything but him singing that song. I better go watch the movie.
oh, man - I was watching "once upon a time in the west" just before listening to this, & this is the soundtrack they should have used. In fact, I might watch it again with this as the audio chanel, it would fill in all thos long portentous silences . . .
Yeah, Joe Strummer should have been a cowboy - & I never would have thought of putting "Surf Samba" in here - but it works!
many thanks, this is pure gold.

Yee haw, this make me wanna put on a ten gallon hat and round up some doggies. Perfect faux-Western sounds. The tracks by Big Audio Dynamite, the Pogues, the KLF and U2 are very nostalgic, for me anyway. And Lee Marvin is the perfect capper - totally hypnotic. Thanks!
