Comment:
Zuvuya.., Mayan for "large memory circuit." It fits. Tracks stretching back to '67.., with flashes forward & backward....Front Office released one 45, in '67...a shame. Helluva' track. Same for Dom.., a German group who put out one lp in '72 and then disappeared. (They may have taken their name literally: seems "Dom" is/was slang for "going out to the countryside for a two-day acid trip.") Jupiter Affect courtesy of the young marble giant-Ion Moe. Michael Quercio's new band.., he of Three O'Clock fame. Have no idea, yet, about Fool's Face, other than they appear on the latest International Pop Overthrow volume (#5), the song fits....thanks to popkulcher for the Green Pajamas track, coming from a disc he put together that still heats up the discplayer down in the lab.....Creme Soda:a "hippie-garage band" based in Milwaukee in the early-mid 70s..,another nice track. Levitation was Terry Bickers post-House of Love band..,too bad he pissed off Guy Chadwick. I don't think the others need introduction....the honor of "double tracks" goes to Lupine Howl, who boast membership all kicked outta' Spiritualized by Jason Pierce. Clearly his loss..., these guys rip. Make my knees go weak. I'd also like to dedicate this mix to Albert..., of Scotland. Surf the memory circuits friends!Feedback:
looks really intresting, a lot of stuff i haven't heard of but love to
The only things stored in my memory circuits here are the Soft Boys, Clean, Supergrass, Felt and Golden Earring (the first band I ever saw live in '76). But this sure looks vastly and actively intriguing. Where'd ya find this line about "Dom" being German[?] slang for . . . whatever? Reeks like a mound of bullshit, if you ask me, but, of course, I'm just a Dirty Old Man from the city on the Rhine sporting a mighty big Dom. :-)
This sent me scurrying to see if I had that Golden Earring track (I don't :-( Of the rest, Supergrass is the only one with any music in MY zuvuya. Great liner notes, and love the cover as well.
Nice, my friend. Very nice.
Great work,Valis. I only a know a couple of the tracks, but I am suitably intrigued. Top of the pile please!
Two howls? Can't keep a good wolf down, eh?. This looks fantastic Valis. Fuck, I love that Clean track.
sans voix... je suis, comment vous dites, sans mots !
i don't know a lot of this but if it comes out of your laboratory i'm sure it's fantastic. and hmmm, beeing german and around when the days of acid happened overhere: "dom" is unknown to me in that sense and it stands for "church". ah well, it's a strange world indeed.
...I'm with Frenchie, here; Incredible stufffffffffff!
You can lump me in with Gerry, Scott K, Thomas, p the swede, in that I'm not familiar with a lot of the artists on this mix. But what I do know is great and based on your solid rep as a fine mix-oligist, I'm sure that this rocks mightily.
gawrsh, Mr. Hertel, much like that savvy Frenchman, Pierre, I too am "without words" (mainly because I belong to the group that does not know many your posted entries--save the Soft Boys & The Clean). Despite my ignorance, however, this looks cool !
Looks like a good'un, Valis. Don't know much here but I'll trust ya...:~)
Good to see you back with another pristine mix. Lupine Howl? Creme Soda? Fools's Face? Never heard of 'em, but they must be fine considering the source of this mix. Let's not let another two months pass before we see another one!
This looks intriguing. I'm familiar with the same bands as the others it seems, Soft Boys, the Clean, Supergrass, Green Pajamas and Golden Earring. I'd love to hear this someday!
all i know is that you can't go wrong with felt. very intriguing valis.
Geez, you couldn't find room for a Bill Monroe track? Or Howlin' Wolf? I guess we'll have to engineer a trade soon and expand each other's zuvuyas.
What is going on in your brain? This looks tasty. Once I get caught up with trades and other non-AOTM stuff, lets talk trade.
Out obscuring the obscurists once again. Add me to the "intrigued" list.
I did see this earlier but didn't have time to comment. This looks very interesting, I've been interested in hearing Lupine Howl for a while, They have intriguing album covers. Alot of other stuff I haven't heard before. Got your email , Do you fancy a trade? Incidently, Does your Nom de Plume come from the Philip K. Dick book of the same name?
Wowsa, this is pretty surreal. Haven't heard many of these tunes. How is that new Quercio project?
looks really good but like the others i'm not familiar with a lot of bands on this
looks cool, amigo
Ha, looks quite interesing. You probably didn't know that Craig Hallsworth - formerly of the Bamboos, Healers, Outstation, and now solo (he's a Perth legend, sort of), used to be in a band called Zuvuya. But now you do. See what happens when you go out with a musician who knows everything there is to know about Perth music (and beyond)?
yo valis -- got yr mixes yesterday, this one is beyond cosmic. i wandered through the snow like reynard the fox on my way to buy wine last night, and listened to this on headphones, and phreaked at the phenomenal sounds. love the creme soda track! the whole thing shines like the sun and breathes the stars within & without. thank you again -- now on to "echoe of an ancient head"...
this one has still firing the synapses that haven't seen light in a while, especially DOM. Great Stuff.
