Comment:
Demonstrating a continued passion (obsession ?) with this fantastic instrument, I wanted to make a mix featuring current practitioners instead of relying too much on the various compilations out there (Electric Psychedelic Sitar Headswirlers) and instead build up something unique. For notes, etc., on the usage & history of the instrument in the modern rock idiom see the Sitarycon for further information. ((Note to Mike Pike Set: Ha! Beat ya' to it! This may run to a third volume, as I have quite a few more tracks from a diverse group of bands. Who knows..? Tomorrow never does...)Feedback:
Let me be the first (I'm the first! Woohoo!) to say this is smashing. I may need a copy of this for each of my CD players...
oooo that bastard Burns (always being 1st)...but what 'e said, anyway:
always a fan of the Indian lute...
Customer: I want to buy some cheese.
Owner: Oh, I thought you were complaining about the
sitar player!
Customer: Oh, heaven forbid: I am one who delights in all manifestations of the Terpsichorean muse!
Owner: Sorry?
Customer: 'Ooo, Ah lahk a nice tuune, 'yer forced too!
Owner: So he can go on playing, can he?
Customer: Only if he's included on Mr. Hertel's latest mix...

....I gotta come clean...I don't know any of these 'cept Echo..whom I love...I'm going to check out the original mix which I remember seeing !
I looooove songs that feature the sitar-though, like Dom, I only know Echo & The Bunnymen. Oh, and g.a.b.-SHUT THAT BLOODY SITAR UP!!!
I haven't heard any of these tracks, Valis. However, knowing full well your penchant for concocting stunning, cranial content-expanding mixes, I must have this. A worthy addition to the Valis canon.
this looks fantastic as usual. We need to do some trading soon friend. I actually got to pluck a sitar over at Transylvania 500's house...it was great...I mean I can't play by any means but, you'd be surprised how loud they actually are! I've never heard an acoustic instrument with that kind of natural volume.
Fabulous (what else did I expect?)! Da mighty sitar in a dub stylee . . . Smokin' shtuff (ha!). Love the Hypnosis, Soma (excellent record, BTW), SoA, Timeshard & FSoL trax, 'specially.
I would lie if I said I heard anything besides Echo on this one but I trust your taste so it's probarbly great
Pass out the cigars! Sitarycon has given birth to a baby boy, and we couldn't be happier! DOn't know much of what's on this new born, but I'm sure it's amazing. Is that Echo a newer version of their older version from the 80s?
Don't know anything 'cept the Bunnymen here, but based on vol. 1 I trust you with the top drone picks.
Very cool and like most I've only heard of Echo but it's great that this stuff is out there and can be found on mixes like this.
valis the sitarchivist strikes again. very nicely felt.
Great Googlymoogly! Another amazing volume!! Hope to hear this soon. YOu've really dig deeper this time.
Let me be the fourteenth to congratulate you, sir. Seemingly a lot more obscure than Volume One and all the more tempting for it. Love to get me mitts on this someday. Bring on the volume three...
Don't know any of this music, but concept and creator tell me that it is incredible!
This looks cool: your record collection must be very impressive.
This mix is a gift from Ganesh himself. Beautiful beyond words. The Liquid Sound Company track is a monster and the Echo & the Bunnymen version of "All You Need is Love" (which I hadn't heard before) hints at this central truth - all music is in the Beatles. Great stuff Valis.
man...missed this...consequently, would love to have this...hint, hint! :)
excellent valis, i can't believe i missed this series, although i guess i wasn't around when it started !
- looks like you have a pretty neat sitar based collection, but i have a couple o india mixes already posted if you spot something you haven't got or would like a swap ?
