Comment:
My poor boyfriend. This is for him, and is basically the musical equivalent of me tugging annoyingly on his sleeve and going, "Hey. Hey. So do you like [fill in band here]?" at various opportunities and generally waxing too lyrical about music. I do love making mixes for him, though, since he has excellent taste and is one of the few people who takes an interest in the fact that I like to make them (or he humours me, either way), and this consists of tracks which I hope, or think, he'll like. Just to explain the duplicity where Orange Juice and Kings of Convenience are concerned - it's not something I normally do, but it was only when making this that I noticed on the back of the KoC CD (Quiet Is The New Loud) the words "Singing Softly to Me and The Girl From Back Then are parts 1 and 2 of the same song" - it seemed right to include both. And since I knew I was going to use Intuition Told Me Part 2, using Part 1 just followed naturally! The title is (partly paraphrased) from the Beta Band track.
Feedback:
Wonderful. I like, I like. The Gang of Four through The Shins, Guided by Voices and that great, great English Beat song especially.
I love all of this mix. Well done. Love the HMHB track. Love it. Love it.
dig it
yes love that english beat song.
great stuff from start to finish.
Magnifique as ever Siobhan. Beta Band, Ian Brown, GBV & many more & I'm a sucker for Cope! I annoy my wife by talking in song titles/song lyrics!
Love the Go4, Jam, HMHB, Beat, and GbV,and you can never go wrong with a band named James.
Fantastic stuff, Siobhan. I love the Shins->Portishead, GBV, Morrisey, Arab Strap and, of course, the English Beat track. Great mix all around.
Nice stuff - faves include the killer Teardrop pick and my fave Morrissey tune (I wish he rocked like this on a few more songs).
Very nice. Lots of great picks... gang of four, orange juice, teardrop
Lovely to see Half Man Half Biscuit featured on a mix. and he rest sure ain't bad, either . . .
Great stuff.
Looks rawkin'. A genre worlds apart from the one in which I exist; but cOoL lookin' nonetheless!
Very nice and amusing comments there too...
The Jam, The Shins, Beta Band, KOC, English Beat, lots to love on this one!
Lucky him. This looks great. I think there are only one or two that I don't know, but I love the rest.
Nothing wrong with a double OJ, & a nice big finish w/ the English Beat . . . trust your Intuition!
I have to assume that if you call the Beat the English Beat then you prolly don't have a clue who Bob Wilson is. So full propers to you for including "Anchorman".
And while we're on the subject, who exactly were the non-English Beat?

Would love to do a first trade with you (for this) if interested. I'll be in the red t-shirt and green ascot. Please be discreet.
Yeah...who the hell were these Foreign Beats??? Great looking mix Siobhan...hope yr byfriend enjoys/ed it!
For the record, there was an "American" Beat (a very good one at that).
Many great choices (dig the OJ, GBV, HFHB run esp.). The (American) Beat went on to be called Paul Collins' Beat (he of the Nerves). A band worth checking out.
