Comment:
I suppose this could be construed as a break-up mix, but the break up was over a year ago. So this really isn't about the break up, but more about me getting on with my life & most importantly getting my ex's stuff out of the house. We were together over a decade, and he's a god-awful packrat. When he departed he left behind a couple of hundred books, two washing-machine-sized hard drives from the 1950s, several dozen jars of jelly and pickles (the fruit of his father's retirement), a poster-size printer (and three other smaller printers), most of his clothes (he'd lost over 50 pounds and never bothered to dispose of the old stuff), a non-working motorcycle, three soldiering irons, over 1000 CDs, several sets of dishes, an amazing array of hideous "art" from his mother, and so forth. He also left behind a mind-boggling network of wires (electric, computer, telephone) running through the house, with instructions that I shouldn't touch them because he couldn't remember which went where and which were live.Anyway, the octopus of wire has been dismantled, virtually all his stuff is out of my living area, and I have a document from a lawyer saying that the rest of his stuff has to be out of the house, the basement, and the garage by the end of May. I feel kinda creepy having gone to a lawyer about this; he hasn't been contentious, just passive. But given that most of my friends were advising me to sell his stuff on e-Bay, or throw it on the street, or simply have a "Let's get drunk, put on your old Alternative Tentacles albums, and destroy stuff" party, I guess mandating that he actually remove it isn't so bad.
Oh - and thanks to Michael (mckbrd) for the great Rose Maddox tune!

JG, this is great! Just the kind of exorcism a person needs. Very personal, very direct, very cathartic (I would imagine). Hope this means clear sailing this Spring. Looking forward to more beers!
Look's like a good start. Music is great medicine.
Keep the CDs! The collection seems to make pretty damn good mixes!
Looks like just the right mix for the circumstances.
So ... DO you/WILL you keep the CDs? Inquiring minds WANT to know! ; )
There's a Jim O'Rourke tune called "There's Hell in Hello, But More in Goodbye," which might be good for this mix, but it's an instumental, so you might not get the beauty of the title out of the tune. In short, ditto Kent's comments.

Did I keep the CDs? I packed them in a box and put them in his office, where they sat for several months. I really don't want any of his stuff; the psychic cost is too high. Anyway, we've always kept our music collections separate. I wouldn't want anyone thinking that I had seen fit to buy everything Jethro Tull ever recorded, and he wouldn't want anyone thinking he's an accordion enthusiast.
OTOH, I did rip most of his collection before I boxed it up (not the Jethro Tull, though).
Oh, and Kent, nothing on the mix is from his collection; his music has made its way onto other mixes of mine, but not this one.

Looks like a good mix.
The Pearlfishers are on permanent repeat play in my house at the moment, the rest of this looks damn good too Jen. Happy huntin' re the closing track too!
A well themed mix Jen with a truck load of great artists! Happy Freedom!
Looks like a great mix. I wish you well in your endeavor to gain freedom. :-)
It's tough to make a mix like this, and tougher still (but strengthening and rewarding) to listen to it as time continues to pass. But damn, girl, what a kickass mix this is (in a couple of senses...)!
I wish to add my best wishes to you and hope good things come your way.
this looks like it would do the trick, nice!!!!!!!!Yowee, pack-rat at the least.......Best Wishes, but something tells me you'll do just fine!!!!!!! (btw, You're very Welcome!)
I'd say you're well on your way!
A really great mix, Jen, and I sincerely hope things work out okay for you soon.
oh my goodness oh my goodness. I'm all ABOUT the destroy stuff party theme. If the quality of this mix is en-par with your current quality of life... somehow I think you're doing fine without this guy. ;)
Congratulations! It's spring and you are entering a brand new phase of your life... which can only mean interesting things! It must feel very empowering. Good luck w/ everything. Great mix!
'Packrat'- that's a new one. Great insult, great mix! I like the idea of the destroy stuff party!
If your new life proves half as good as this you're in for a great time!
Wonderful mix and best wishes as you move on.
the mix is brilliant and it's great that you could find a reasonable way to deal with the situation.if i were you i'd probably go for the "destroy'em" party:)
Lovely (and funny, in a way). Great you finally managed to lose all the dead weight. ;)
Glad you looked beyond the destruction and put your catharsis into a mix! Besides anyone who leaves their music behind is not worth the emotional turmoil anyway.
Ee-yikes! This is the real punk rawk. So many great cathartic selections. Now about this Tull-bashing.... this happens every few months on AotM. I tell ya, Tull (up to around 1980) was pretty great. I can see that I'm going to have to dig out my old Tull vinyl and make a mix.
Not just a new chapter, a new book entirely. Best wishes.(I'm with FLWB.)
I'm for the destroying stuff option. Good mix, Jen. Beats primal scream therapy.
So this is the guy you've been comparing me to? ;) Let me know where you dump his CDs so I can have first pickings. Oh yes, the mix is totally cool. Sorry it took a nasty break-up to inspire it. :(
Out with the old and in with a mix! A fantastic, evisceratin' mix.
Fucking excellent! WOW!
Great stuff, what a cathartic mix!
Crikey! Just discovering your mixes - I never realised I had missed out on your life like this. Great mix, I hope you feel extra super duper uber positive now and don't need geeks like me reminding you of this mix. Love this, by the way.
