Comment:

OCTOPUS
Trip to heave and ho, up down, to and fro'
you have no word
trip, trip to a dream dragon
hide your wings in a ghost tower
sails cackling at every plate we break
cracked by scattered needles
the little minute gong
coughs and clears his throat
madam you see before you stand
hey ho, never be still
the old original favorite grand
grasshoppers green Herbarian band
and the tune they play is "In Us Confide"
so trip to heave and ho, up down, to and fro'
you have no word
Please leave us here
close our eyes to the octopus ride!
Isn't it good to be lost in the wood
isn't it bad so quiet there, in the wood
meant even less to me than I thought
with a honey plough of yellow prickly seeds
clover honey pots and mystic shining feed...
well, the madcap laughed at the man on the border
hey ho, huff the Talbot
"Cheat" he cried shouting kangaroo
it's true in their tree they cried
Please leave us here
close our eyes to the octopus ride!
The madcap laughed at the man on the border
hey ho, huff the Talbot
the winds they blew and the leaves did wag
they'll never put me in their bag
the seas will reach and always seep
so high you go, so low you creep
the wind it blows in tropical heat
the drones they throng on mossy seats
the squeaking door will always squeak
two up, two down we'll never meet
so merrily trip forgo my side
Please leave us here
close our eyes to the octopus ride!

Thanks to Gerry Mc' and Stippenquop for assistance in tracks found herein....a bazaar for the bizarre.

I was thinking of doin' something similar but that might well be 'cos I viewed series 1 of Carnivale in 2 mammoth sittings... I see the lights are dimming so please excuse me while there is still enough light to find my seat...great stuff Ring Master Valis!

Looks amazing. Love the Gris Gris and Tall Dwarfs tracks especially. I just found out that "Weeville" and "Fork Songs" by the Tall Dwarfs are being re-issed in North America in August, and that they'll be playing a few shows with the Olivia Tremor Control in July/August.

This is absolutely wonderful, old chap. Love the nod to Syd (he, of the too much ah-cid, unfortunately), and that cover is a morter-forker. Glad the lay-off and the impending shift of living quarters hasn't dampened your enthusiasm for AOTM, my friend.

Looks like you're the ringleader for the greatest show on earth --well at least in Ohio anyway. Don't know too much here, but if that Epicycle song is even half as good as Sunday Girl, it deserves to be in the spotlight. Impending shift of living quarters? Lay off? We need to talk!

Ace line-up. Always liked Terry Halls' voice so the double dose here is more than welcomed. Glad to see the Idle Race here as well, especially since I'm currently frantic trying to find where I misplaced the first disc from Back to the Story.

Sonia says that we should trade because you always do the best mixes. Actually, I think I could bring myself to listen to this too! (esp the 12 to 16 stretch) A propos of nothing, it's not a million miles from Octopus Ride to Alien sex. Be careful, mon ami.

Only 4 months late with my comment 'hey ho'- just a bit still. Roll up, roll up for the greatest mix on earth, perhaps I just might!

out there in the universe someplace, there is a distant galaxy, tripping their nuts off to this mix, and thinking "where do these wonderful sounds come from? Is it planet earth, or planet Valis?" or both.........? stellar stuff, as ever.

When I hear a valis soundtrack, it projects a movie for my inner eye, & this one is a 3-ring wonder w/ dancing midgets, cruel clown acrobats, black cats, & death-defying roundabouts.
I rolled up for a mystery tour & what should appear to my wondering eye but a galloping gaucho ghost rider in the sky. The freak show was fascinating but I spent most of my time on the roundabouts & Octopus.
I'm giving my standing ovations to Syd Barrett, Stackridge, Starlight Mints, Gris Gris, Kennelmus, & the Clean, but tell you the truth my hands are raw from applauding.

thank you for the ticket to the circus valis - "this is my million dollar day"
