Comment:

This is one of a couple of mixes I recently made for my brother, mostly as a result of a conversation we had in which I said "Would you like a mix?" and he said "Okay". I like making mixes for him; he enjoys getting all the slightly off-kilter stuff that I want to include on mixes, but don't think anyone else would really approve of! The aim here really was to be as deliberately mixed up as possible - it's a nice challenge. Also, a recent "find" of mine, recommended to me by a friend, has been the soundtrack to the British TV series A History of Britain (Simon Schama presented it), which features John Harle's modern re-workings of traditional songs dating from the Middle Ages. It's very unique and has some wonderful tracks on it: the one on this mix (O Mistress Mine), is performed by Elvis Costello. I'd definitely recommend it. Advert over! And finally, I have to thank Ken very much for the wonderful Animal Collective song. The title comes from the Erase Errata track.

Another great one. The Knack, Go-Betweens, Minus Five and Kate Bush tracks look especially nice. I've been trying to work on mixing it up a bit more myself these days, but whenever I get a chance to work on a mix, it invariably ends up leaning pretty heavily towards the psych/folk end of the spectrum. (it is what I've been listening to a lot these days, I suppose). We'll have to put together another trade soon, huh?

I wish my sister would make me something like this.

No sibling has ever given me a mix tape - one of the few drawbacks of being an only child. But if I did have a sister, I would be gracious to receive such a wonderful gift.

Other than the fact that the thought of Gary Puckett & the Union Gap covering Lady Madonna scares be a bit, I really love this mix. I particularly like that David Byrne to Eddie Cochran to House of Love.

I'm with Jim re: Gary Puckett the rest looks great, though.

This is great, despite my shared aversion of all things Puckett.

I like Gary Puckett, though I haven't heard that version of Lady Madonna. I especially love that David Byrne tune. Nice mix.

I gotta take a stand and defend GP & the Union Gap, since one of the members (the guy with the round glasses and the blonde bowl haircut) taught me to play the saxophone.
