Jane Grows Up and Goes Away to School
Comment:
I've known Jane since before she was born. I remember seeing her mom playing guitar with Two Minutes Hate in a leopard skin bikini, about eight months pregnant. I've seen her family go through triumphs and tragedy, and I've seen Jane try on many personas and many hair colors. Now she's entering that phase of life where you get the opportunities to make your own choices, and your own mistakes. I suppose I could play the wise old lady & tell her all the things I wish I'd known when I was starting out. I'd like to spare her the angst that I went through at her age, but I know that's kind of pointless. I seem to remember (through the drug-addled haze of memory of my college years) middle-aged fuddy-duddies giving me advice. It annoyed the f*ck out of me. So instead, I just made her a mix. Thanks to Moe for the Syreeta Wright cut and to the Misfit for the Head song.
Joey de Vivre did a similar mix with his recent act of brilliance Back to School Special. Normally, I'd try to avoid duplication - which happens here with all songs performed by people named Louis - but I just couldn't put this together without "School Days" and "You Don't Learn That in School." FWIW, they were on the play list in my mind, before Joey posted his mix.

Feedback:
It's like "Milo goes to college" all over again. This is really cute, Aunt Jenny.
Could have used this when I went to away to college.
And, probably some advice at that time, as well. Not that I would have listened.
Ahh, youth...(geez, I feel old for only being 30)

Very nice, all you can do is try....
Brilliant. A+, my friend. LOVE the DM inclusion!
Looks great! Tell us how she likes it...
great and nice
Nifty. I suspect your advice would be significantly less fuddy-duddyish than that of most family friends, but I hear what you're saying.
This mix contains lots of great advice! (I love that Louis Jordan song. I was just listening to it the other day.)
I love Marlene D - so great mix! Other than that, always use a condom, drink a pint of water before going to bed, don't go to bed on an argument and don't do needles. There, I'll give the advice for you . . .
Very nice.
Looks like great stuff for the occasion, especially tracks 12-18. As far as I can tell, today's generation knows way more than I did at that age, so I agree with bagging trying to give her any advice. Instead how about propose a Jane/Jenergy Alternating DJ mix?
Super cool going away present. Jane's going to gain mad cred playing this to her new friends. Tear it up, Jane!
Wonderful. I love (love!) the Queen -> Blosom Dearie pairing.
fantastic as always.
Looks great. No doubt she'll have some neighbor humming TYA's Good Morning Little School Girl. Watch out.
Judging by the photo, this young lady looks pretty wild. Hopefully this excellent mix can tame her -- or it might just have the opposite effect. Either way, I'm sure she'll like getting this mix from the "wise old lady."
Looks great!
Sage days eh Jen! Jane's a lucky girl, what a top mix.
This looks great. I assume that is the I-love-to-Count? Ah-ah-ah!
Giving it the old college try, eh?
(Though as I recall "the old college try" mostly consists of trying to have as much fun, listen to as much music, and do as little work as possible - I hope that's your sage advice -- )

Great stuff Jen!
nice one........
A fine mox. So much great stuff on here.
Good counsel is always a help, as is a good mix. Jane will know where to turn.
By the way, mox is my word for compilation. It is NOT a misspelling of the word mix. Honest..
what the heck, I want a cooler wiser person to give me advice via mixtape! great job, I'm jealous
