Comment:

(2 CDs) I did a best-of-Idlewild mix before, in tape format (back in those halcyon days), and it was mostly used for listening to when I was walking somewhere - and it was in tape format because my CD player really went bananas when I tried to walk and listen to it at the same time, whereas my cassette player was fine with that. Anyway, since then, I've been wanting to do another version which does more justice to Idlewild; they've pretty much been in my top ten for as long as I've been listening to them, and I've seen them live once. Unfortunately, that was just after bassist Bob Fairfoull left, but they were still on top form, and Roddy Woomble's really a very charismatic frontman.
The extra material provided by the album they put out between then and now was nice to include! That said, even though there are tracks here from the Captain EP and the albums - Hope Is Important, 100 Broken Windows, The Remote Part and Warnings/Promises - as well as B-sides, I did find out that it would practically be possible fit all of their material (from art-school emo/punk to nostalgic indie folk) across 2 CDs. So there weren't a lot of cuts!
Title from In remote part / Scottish fiction and the picture was taken at the Edinburgh book festival a couple of years ago. I'm really a horrible photographer but at least I found a use for that one.

I'm glad you put the acoustic version of Self Healer on there. That's one's a real gem. I've still got it on tape somewhere from when I taped it off of the Lamacq show.

Y'know, Idlewild has always been one of those bands that I intend to check out, but have never gotten around to it. I've always liked anything I've ever heard from them, though and Little Discourage is f'ing amazing.

I'm with all of the dittos. I've more or less liked (although not really loved) the little amount of material that I've heard, but would be up for hearing more (especially "more" if it's hand-picked by the likes of you) someday. :-)

mmm. sorry that i missed this one. just starting to get into idlewild... they always seem to get the late and painful axe on recent mixes... but sweet nonetheless. well done.
